MEET THE ALL-VOLUNTEER STAFF, INTERNS, AND COLUMNISTS OF $PREAD MAGAZINE

RACHEL AIMEE, Editor-in-Chief

Rachel Aimee grew up in a small seaside town in Scotland. Before moving to Brooklyn in 2004 and founding $pread with Rebecca Lynn and Raven Strega, she was an aspiring scriptwriter in Bournemouth, England, an English teacher in Bangkok, Thailand, and a bored receptionist in New Jersey. Rachel's primary responsibilities at $pread include editing, managing subscribers, and dragging shopping carts full of magazines up and down subway steps. In her spare time she obsessively photographs her cats, Lion and Platypus.

ELIYANNA KAISER, Executive Editor

Eliyanna Kaiser is originally from western Canada and is a political activist with a background in public policy. At $pread, Eliyanna is an editor and writes the Healthy Hooker column. She lives in New York City with her girlfriend and their lizard, Celebration the Leopard Gecko.

MONICA SHORES, Reviews Editor

Monica Shores is a vegan feminazi who practices yoga at least 5 times a week and spends the rest of the time worshipping her cats. She is far more irritating than even this description makes her sound. She currently lives in Washington DC, but her favorite city is Las Vegas, and she's using The Secret to actualize her dream of moving to India. It's bound to start working any day now.

ERIN SIEGAL, West Coast Director

Erin Siegal was $pread's Art Director from its birth up until Issue 2.4, after which she left NYC and moved to California, where she is now the West Coast Director. She currently lives in San Francisco with a very beautiful pug named Siobhan, who is a rabidly anti-sex work Dworkinite. Erin and Siobhan constantly debate the right to self-determination, and Erin usually wins, because Siobhan is a dog and is determined only to eat pebbles on the sidewalk. Visit Siobhan via her exciting pug photoblog. Erin's less exciting photo work can be seen on her website, www.erinsiegal.com

AXON DAMIEN LUXE, Art Director

Damien is a high-femme working-class Brooklyn/Toronto based DIY performance artist, writer, and media maker. She has performed at Queeruption 10, The Sex Workers Film and Art Festival Cabaret, Femme 2006, Sista'hood, gone on the Perptual Motion Roadshow, at Ladyfest(s), Cheap Queers, Hysteria, and Mayworks, + tons more shows all over the US and Canada; she also toured with the performance troupe Trash and Ready [www.trashready.com] in 04/05. Her writing has appeared in Geeks, Misfits and Outlaws (2004) and Without A Net (2003). Her recordings include Ice-9 [2007], Bombshell Lexicon (2005) and Bad Girls Belief System (2005). D'Luxe also works as a textile artist in reconstructing/recycling vintage clothing and embroidery; and as a skill-sharing teacher workshopping media skills for the underground. For $pread, she is lead designer and production manager, as well as sometimes an event planner. She loves anything on two wheels, and rhinestones. You can find her online at HadassahsBizarre.com or at Heels on Wheels Design.

LOUISE CHEUNG, Photo Editor

Louise is a performance artist and photographer from NYC. She is currently going for her BFA in Photography and when she's not in school she's running around the Lower East Side or creating something. She likes anything that's pink and brightly colored. She can usually be found with her face glued to her laptop or camera. Louise is in charge of photo editing and image sourcing at $pread. When she's not shooting for $pread, she takes photographs of weird and macabre things. Her photography can be seen at her website.

THERESA MARIE, Advertising Director

Theresa Marie spent most of her childhood and teenage years in the rural and staunchly Republican stronghold of eastern North Carolina, where she constantly got into fights with her peers due to her pro-choice and LGBT rights activism. She then moved back to her birthplace of Brooklyn, NY where she continued her political activism, and became actively involved in the sex workers' rights movement.

NOREEN WOLFE, Distribution Manager

Noreen is a sex worker activist who lives in Brooklyn with her cat, Sam. When she's not conspiring against The Man, she occupies herself with art preservation projects, concocting herbal elixirs, teaching herself how to draw, and raising hell around town with her friends.

WILLIAM "WILL" ROCKWELL, Outreach Director

William is a boi-identified mammal splitting his time in New York City between dance parties, public libraries, and blogging at Sex! Work?. The rest of his time is spent moisturizing.

SARA HOWARD, Outreach Assistant

SARAH BLEVISS, New Media Director

Sarah Bleviss is a visual artist and cultural producer. She earned a BA from Hampshire College in Art and Cultural Studies. Amongst other things, as New Media Director Sarah repairs all those broken links you find so please send them to her. In addition to $pread, she connects activists, media makers, artists, and social justice & arts groups with one another, sort of like a one-woman Myspace. Sarah loves the first amendment, cats (she has two), pre-war architecture, and Victorian and Edwardian aesthetics. She resides in Brooklyn, NY and only reads non-fiction.

SHAKTI ZILLER, Director of Communications

Shakti is a native New Yawker and dawg lover living in the East Village. She has a BA in Art in the Context of Gender and Sexuality and a strong background in feminist theory. Shakti is on the Board of Directors of an organization that teaches the Fertility Awareness Method and also is currently training to become a gynecological teaching associate. She loves knitting, the American Folk Art Museum and MoSex, film noir, the library, Cairo and Rome. Shakti is in charge of publicizing all $preads events as well as drafting, coordinating and implementing all activities relating to media communications and press queries. When she isn't doing all that or contemplating taking on even more; she is either nailing flowers to her ceiling at midnight or taping the things she doesn't feel like putting away to the wall. The fastest way to attract her attention is to march a pug into her line of vision.

DOROTHY SCHWARTZ, Columnist

Dorothy started her career as a harm reduction outreach volunteer. She is trained in HIV/AIDS community education and is an HIV test center counselor. Dorothy is currently taking a break from her role as $pread'sFinancial Director to attend nursing school but she is still working with $pread as the writer of the Healthy Hooker column.
